The US Department of the Treasury has released a statement emphasizing the United States’ commitment to the flow of humanitarian aid and medical supplies to all areas affected by the COVID-19 global pandemic, including countries that are subject to US sanctions. According to the statement, the Office of Foreign Assets Control continues to maintain exemptions and authorizations affecting Iran, Venezuela, Syria, and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. For transactions that don’t fall within existing authorizations, OFAC will work with the private sector, and invites applications for specific licenses to support humanitarian and medical support by US persons.
