On April 20, 2020, the African Development Bank announced that it had debarred Sinotec Company Limited, a Chinese energy solutions company, for thirty-six months. According to the ADB, Sinotec misrepresented its experience, the value and date of its reference contracts, and its relationship with other bidders when participating in tenders for contracts for three ADB-financed power projects in Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda.
The ADB had previously announced, on April 14, 2020, that it had debarred China Zhonghao Nigeria Limited, a civil engineering company registered in Nigeria, for eighteen months as a result of misrepresentations Zhonghao had made in connection with bidding on an urban water supply and sanitation project in Nigeria.
