United Nations extends Sudan sanctions for another year

On September 11, 2024, the United Nations Security Council announced that it adopted Resolution 2750 (2024) to extend sanctions against Sudan until September 12, 2025.  The restrictive measures, including asset freezes, travel bans and an arms embargo, were also extended for additional year.   The extension was issued after the Council unanimously determined that the conflict in Sudan is still hindering humanitarian aid and subjecting Sudanese people to intensified fighting, human rights violations, and mass displacement.  The Council also determined that targeted sanctions will help deescalate the conflict and restrict the movement of arms into Darfur, which has fueled the catalyzing activities in Sudan.
