Council of the EU renews Burundi sanctions for an additional year

The Council of the EU recently adopted Council Decision (CFSP) 2024/2722 to renew restrictive measures concerning the situation in Burundi for an additional year, until October 31, 2025.   The Burundi sanctions regime targets individuals and entities responsible for undermining democracy or the search for a political solution to the situation in Burundi or those that engage in human rights abuses or other acts that violate international human rights and humanitarian law in Burundi.  Listed persons are subject to an asset freeze and travel ban in the European Union. In addition, EU persons are forbidden from making funds available to designees.  According to the Council, there is currently one person subject to these restrictive measures.
