United Nations extends Sudan sanctions for an additional year

On February 17, 2025, the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2772 (2025) to extend Sudan sanctions for an additional year, until March 12, 2026.  The Sudan Sanctions Panel was also tasked with providing a Sanctions Committee with a final report, which will include the Panel’s findings and recommendations on the situation in Sudan, by January 13, 2026.  The Panel is also expected to provide an interim report on its activities due no later than August 12, 2025 and provide periodic updates every three months.  According to the U.S. Representative, who is the main author of the resolution, the Panel’s independent reporting should encourage international support for Sudan and efforts to resolve the conflict in Sudan that is responsible for the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.
