On August 23, 2022, the Financial Conduct Authority announced a plan to form an advisory committee to address Environmental, Social and Governance issues. The agency is seeking external experts with in-depth knowledge of ESG issues in the financial sector to serve on the committee. The ESG Advisory Committee will be responsible for providing the FCA Board with advice on how to oversee ESG issues, address relevant emerging ESG topics, and help the FCA develop an ESG strategy consistent with the organization’s statutory objectives and regulatory principles.
External members appointed to the new ESG Advisory Committee by the Board will be required to comply with a conflict of interest policy, and current employees of regulated firms may not apply. The Committee will hold its first meeting in the fourth quarter of 2022, and quarterly thereafter. The FCA urges stakeholders who have questions or need additional information to contact the ESG Advisory Committee, and individuals interested in joining the Committee should send their CVs to the Committee by September 16, 2022.
