Cybersecurity incident reported by major hotel chain

Marriott International has reported a security incident that entailed unauthorized access to a database potentially containing the passport numbers, birthdates, gender, communications preferences, and the expiration dates of payment cards of up to 327 million hotel guests.  According to Marriott, its initial investigation uncovered that there had been unauthorized access to the Starwood network since 2014, up until the access was discovered in September 2018.  Marriott has reported the incident to law enforcement, and has begun the process of notifying regulatory authorities.
