The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury has designated two members of the Lebanese parliament and one Hizballah security official pursuant to Executive Order 13224, for serving in key political and security roles in the Hizballah organization, and facilitating Hizballah’s agenda directed by Iran. The Department of the Treasury noted that Hizballah’s political and violent activities are indistinguishable, and that the organization threatens the economic stability and security of Lebanon and the wider region, to the detriment of the Lebanese people and government. Hizballah was designated in October 2001 pursuant to Executive Order 13224, following its 1997 designation by the US Department of State as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.
As a result of the designations, all US property belonging to Waqif Safa, Muhammad Hasan Ra’d, and Amin Sherri is blocked, and US persons are generally prohibited from dealing with them.
