CMA launches inquiry into Brink’s-NCR Atleos merger

On August 26, 2026, the Competition and Markets Authority informed two U.S.-based companies – The Brink’s Company and NCR Atleos Corporation – that it had launched Phase 1 of a formal investigation into their anticipated merger. Brink’s, which is headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, is a cash management company that provides digital retail solutions and ATM services for businesses and government entities.  NCR Atleos, based in Atlanta, Georgia, is one of the world’s largest providers of ATMs and ATM services. Brink’s announced its plan to acquire NCR Atleos for approximately $6.6 billion on February 26, 2026.

The CMA reported that it notified the parties of its inquiry after issuing an “invitation to comment” from May 20 to June 4, 2026, which allowed interested parties to provide input on the potential impact of the merger on competition in the United Kingdom. According to the Commencement Notice, the CMA has until October 22, 2026, to determine whether its investigation will proceed to Phase 2.
