Council of the European Union extends sanctions related to Russia’s war against Ukraine for six months

On January 27, 2025, the Council of the European Union extended restrictive measures related to Russia’s war against Ukraine for six additional months, until July 31, 2025.  The extension applies to a number of sectoral measures, including restrictions on trade, finance, and technology as well as a ban on the import or transfer of seaborne crude oil and certain petroleum products from Russia to the European Union.  The Russia sanctions regime, which serves to restrict economic relations with Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, and non-government controlled areas of Ukraine, subjects listed persons to asset freezes and travel restrictions in the European Union.
