On January 16, 2024, the Council of the European Union designated Ahmed Khaled Müller, a member of Al-Shabab in Somalia, for engaging in combat operations and terrorist acts on behalf of Al-Shabab, a group affiliated with Al-Qaida. Müller will be subject to restrictive measures against ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida, including a travel ban and asset freeze. The designation also prohibits EU persons and operators from making funds or economic resources available to him.
On January 16, 2024, in response to the terrorist attacks in Israel by Hamas, the Council also added Yahia Sinouar (a/k/a Yahya Sinwar), the political leader of Hamas in Gaza, to the EU terrorist list. Sinouar was listed pursuant to Common Position 2001/931/CFSP, which subjects him to asset freezes in the European Union and prohibits EU persons and operators from making funds or economic resources available to him.
