New federal law protects consumer data

The new Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act created new protections for consumers wishing to freeze their credit.  Under the Act, the three nationwide credit bureaus are required to freeze consumer’s credit within 24 hours of a request and to unfreeze within one hour of a request.
