US health benefit company settles HIPAA violations

The Department of Health and Human Services announced that Anthem, Inc. will pay $16 million to settle potential violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, following the largest breach of health data in history.  The breach, which occurred in early 2015, involved the health records of 79 million individuals.  Anthem will undertake corrective action in addition to paying amounts agreed to in the settlement.
