The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury has sanctioned three senior officials of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for undermining democratic processes or institutions in the DRC. The sanctions, pursuant to Executive orders 13413 and 13671, target the president, vice-president and a senior advisor in the DRC’s National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI). All assets of the designated persons in the US are blocked as a result of the designations, and US persons are prohibited from engaging in transactions with them.
