The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury has designated one entity and five individuals pursuant to the Sergei Magnitsky Rule of Law Accountability Act of 2012, 22 USC §2656 (Magnitsky Act), bringing to 55 the number of designations under the Magnitsky Act. The entity, the Terek Special Rapid Response Team, and the five individuals were designated for participating in efforts to conceal liability for the death of Sergei Magnitsky in detention in Russia in 2009, for oversight and mishandling of Magnisky’s detention, and for responsibility for extrajudicial killings and gross violations of human rights in Russia and Chechnya.
As a result of the designations, US property interests of the designated persons are blocked, and transactions between the designated persons and US persons are prohibited.
