US president issues executive order imposing sanctions on top Iranian officials

On June 24, 2019, the president issued an executive order, “Imposing Sanctions with Respect to Iran,” that targets the office of Iran’s Supreme Leader.  The order blocks US property interests of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the office of the supreme leader, and any person appointed by the supreme leader to a position as a state official of Iran.  The order also authorizes sanctions on foreign financial institutions that knowingly conduct or facilitate any significant financial transaction on behalf of any person blocked by the order.
