The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury has designated four Iraqi nationals pursuant to Executive Order 13818, for human rights abuse and corruption. The four are former provincial governors in Iraq and leaders of militia brigades accused of brutality, intimidation, extortion, robbery, kidnapping, rape, bribery, abuse of power, and corruption in regions of Iraq. To-date, 113 individuals and entities have been designated pursuant to Executive Order 13818, which followed enactment of the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act in December 2017.
As a result of the designations, US property of the designated individuals is blocked, and US persons are generally prohibited from dealing with such property.
