The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury has issued an advisory to warn the civil aviation industry of potential exposure to US economic sanctions and enforcement actions for dealing with designated Iranian airlines or transferring aircraft, related goods and technology. In issuing this warning, OFAC provided some guidance to help parties avoid exposing themselves to sanctions violations. This included examples of potentially sanctionable activities, deceptive practices Iran uses to acquire aircraft and related goods, technology, or services, and a list of entities who were designated for supporting Mahan Air, an Iranian commercial airline that was sanctioned in 2011 for providing support to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.
