Iran’s Foreign Minister designated by OFAC

The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury has designated Mohammad Javad Zarif pursuant to Executive Order 13876 for serving as Foreign Minister of Iran and acting on behalf of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.  According to OFAC, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under the direction of Zarif, has supported efforts to influence elections, and has sought the release of Islamic Revolutionay Guard Corps (IRGC) operatives by making payments to members of the judiciary.

Following the designation, all US property belonging to Zarif is blocked, and US persons are generally prohibited from dealing with such property.
