OFAC announces new Venezuela-related sanctions targeting business partners of the Maduro regime

The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury has designated three individuals and 16 entities for their relationships to Alex Saab and Alvaro Pulido, who were designated by OFAC on July 25, 2019.  The new designations, pursuant to Executive Order 13850 as amended, target immediate adult family members of Saab and Pulido, and entities controlled by them.  According to OFAC, Saab, Pulido, and their associates, have been involved in corruptly securing valuable business contracts with the government of Venezuela, including contracts with the government’s food subsidy program, Los Comités Locales de Abastecimiento y Producción, or CLAP.

Following the designations, all US property of the designated individuals and entities are blocked, and US persons are generally prohibited from dealing with blocked persons and property.
