OFAC designates Nicaraguan officials

The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury has designated three Nicaraguan government officials pursuant to Executive Order 13851, for persecuting Nicaraguan citizens exercising their fundamental freedoms.  The designated individuals are the Deputy Director General of the Nicaraguan National Police, the activing President of the Nicaraguan Supreme Electoral Council, and the Director of the Nicaraguan Social Security Institute.  According to OFAC, these individuals have been involved in the violent repression of anti-government protestors, undemocratic tactics to ensure the election of the current present of Nicaragua, corruption, bribery, misappropriation of public assets, and the expropriation of private assets for personal gain and political purposes.

As a result of the designations, all US property of the designated individuals is blocked, and US persons are generally prohibited from dealing with such property.
