OFAC designates individuals for threatening the peace in Mali

The US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctioned five Malian individuals for threatening the implementation of the 2015 Agreement on Peace and Reconciliation.  OFAC’s action was taken concurrently with the designation of these five individuals by the UN Security Council Mali Sanctions Committee for an asset freeze, which obligates all UN Member States to freeze assets on their territories that are owned or controlled by these five individuals.

According to OFAC, Houka Houka Ag Alhousseini, Mahri Sidi Amar Ben Daha, Mohamed Ould Mataly, Mohamed Ben Ahmed Mahri, and Ahmed Ag Albachar were complicit in obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid and threatening the stability of Mali.

As a result of the designations, all US property belonging to the five named individuals is blocked, and US persons are generally prohibited from dealing with the property or property interests of blocked or designated persons.
