On April 8, 2020, CHS Inc., an agricultural cooperative, announced in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission that the US Department of Justice had closed its inquiry, without taking any action, into potential violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act by CHS. CHS had initially disclosed the potential violations — which related to payments made to Mexican customs officials for inspections of grain at the US-Mexican border — in 2018, to both the DOJ and the SEC.
In its April 8 filing, CHS stated that the SEC investigation remains ongoing, and that it is fully cooperating with the SEC.
