On May 19, 2020, AT&T Inc. announced that it was closing its DirectTV operations in Venezuela in order to comply with the US government’s sanctions laws for that country. According to the press release, DirectTV’s Venezuelan license requires the broadcast of channels run by sanctioned organizations as part of their pay TV service, and US leadership team felt compelled to end service in order to comply with the legal requirements of both Venezuela and the US.
