SEC awards $2.4 million to whistleblower whose information helped stop ongoing misconduct

On September 21, 2020, the US Securities and Exchange Commission announced the award of $2.4 million to a whistleblower, the 97th individual to receive a whistleblower award from the SEC since the inception of the whistleblower program in 2012.

According to the SEC order, the whistleblower voluntarily provided original information that led to two successful enforcement actions.  As noted by the SEC, the whistleblower’s information helped the SEC detect misconduct, identify key witnesses and parties, draft targeted subpoenas, and contributed to all of the charges brought in the enforcement actions.
