On December 21, 2020, the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control designated three Nicaraguan government officials, including the Vice President of Nicaragua’s Supreme Court of Justice, the Deputy of the National Assembly, and the Chief of the Nicaragua’s National Police in Leon, pursuant to Executive Order 13851, that targets high-ranking officials who support the Ortega regime’s efforts to undermine Nicaragua’s democracy.  These individuals were designated by OFAC for utilizing Nicaragua’s judicial or financial reporting mechanisms, to facilitate the Ortega regime’s efforts to locate, intimidate and punish its political opponents.

As a result of these designations, all US property is blocked, and all transactions with these individuals are generally prohibited.  In addition, any entity in the US that is owned fifty percent or more by a sanctioned person, is also blocked.
