The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury has designated four entities and one individual pursuant to Executive Order 13405, for participating in actions that undermine democratic processes and institutions and Belarus.
The designated entities include the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus on Elections and Holding Republican Referenda, the Minsk Special Purpose Police Unit, the Main Internal Affairs Directorate of the Minsk City Executive Committee, and the KGB Alpha, all of which have been designated for their role in the presidential election on August 9, 2020, and the violent crackdown on ensuing pro-democracy protests. Henadz Arkadzievich Kazakevitch, a deputy minister of the chief of the criminal police, has also been sanctioned.
Pursuant to these sanctions, US property of the designated persons is blocked, and transactions involving such property are generally prohibited.
