European Council extends sanctions on Iran and adds eleven parties to sanctions list

On April 12, 2021, the Council of the European Union adopted Council Implementing Decisions (CFSP) 2021/584 and 2021/585 to extend the restrictive measures imposed against Iran until April 13, 2022, and add eleven new parties to the Iranian sanctions list pursuant to Regulation (EU) No 359/2011. Iranian sanctions currently consist of travel bans and asset freezes for listed parties, and prohibit EU citizens and companies from engaging in transactions with parties in Iran or making funds available to sanctioned individuals and entities. The new additions to sanctions list, consisting of eight individuals and three entities, were sanctioned for their role in the widespread violence displayed by Iranian authorities in response to the November 2019 demonstrations.
