UK and Switzerland join UN Security Council to sanction three Houthi generals

On November 9, 2021, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office joined the UN Security Council and Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) to impose Yemen-related financial sanctions against three Houthi military leaders for facilitating the dire humanitarian crisis in Yemen.  James Cleverly, the UK’s Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, announced that an international agreement was reached to impose restrictive measures against two Houthi generals who led offensives throughout Yemen and planned cross-border attacks against Saudi Arabia, and a third general who allegedly used his position to seize his opponents assets and evade the UN arms embargo.  Cleverly also urged all parties involved in the conflict to engage in meaningful negotiations in order to bring the conflict to an end.
