EU sanctions former President of Ukraine and his son

On August 4, 2022, the Council of the EU imposed restrictive measures against pro-Russian former President of the Ukraine Viktor Feorovych Yanukovych and his son, Oleksandr Viktorovych Yanukovych with the adoption of Council Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/1354 and Council Decision (CFSP) 2022/1355 amending Decision2014/145/CFSP concerning restrictive measures involving actions that under or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine. The Council reports that sanctions were imposed for their participation in activities or support for policies which threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, as well as the state’s stability and security.  Oleksandr, who runs a number of businesses in the energy, coal, construction, banking and real estate sectors in Donbas region, has also been sanctioned for conducting transactions with separatist groups in the Donbas region of Ukraine.
