OFAC amends Cyber-Related Sanctions Regulations

On September 2, 2022, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control announced that it amended the Cyber-Related Sanctions Regulations, 31 CFR part 578, and reissued the regulations in their entirety. This administrative action serves to replace the abbreviated set of regulations, published on December 31, 2015, with a more comprehensive set that will provide the public with additional interpretive and definitional guidance, general licenses and other regulatory provisions.  The amended regulations are effective on September 6, 2022 upon publication in the Federal Register.

OFAC also reports that the publication of the final rule in the Federal Register triggered an automatic administrative update in the sanctions numbering system that affected multiple sanctions entries.  A list of unique identifier numbers (UIDs) for the affected entries has been provided as part of its administrative update.
