EU and UK amend DRC-related sanctions by adopting UN Security Council Resolution 2641

The EU and the UK recently adopted United Nations Security Council Resolution 2641, which amends the criteria used for the designation of persons and entities subject to restrictive measures in view of the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (“DRC”).  Resolution 2641 also amends the scope of the obligation to notify the UN Sanction Committee of certain shipments of arms and related materials or provision of technical assistance, financing, brokering and other services related to DRC military activities.  Toward this end, the EU adopted Council Decision (CFSP) 2022/2241, which went into effect at the end of November 2022, and the UK revised The Democratic Republic of Congo (Sanctions) (EU Exit) (Amendment) Regulation 2022, which will come into force on December 23, 2022.
