EU sanctions Iranians for suppressing human rights at home, and supporting Russia’s war abroad

The Council of the European Union has approved, and the European Union has adopted, conclusions reconfirming the European Union’s support for human rights in Iran, condemning the disproportionate use of force by the Iranian authorities to suppress popular protests, expressing concern about Iran’s nuclear program, its destabilizing activities in the Middle East, and the provision of unmanned aerial vehicles to support Russian military action in Ukraine. 

Concurrent to its adoption of the Conclusions, the Council added twenty individuals and one entity to the list of persons sanctioned pursuant to the Iran human rights sanctions regime, and four individuals and four entities to the list of persons sanctioned for threatening the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine.
