OFAC issues Burma-related general license and updates language in Burma, Sudan, and Ukraine/Russia-related sanctions regulations

On August 20, 2024, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control published a final rule to update the language used in the Burma, Sudan, and Ukraine/Russia sanctions regulations.  OFAC updated the authorities section of the Burma Sanctions Regulations (“BSR”) to reference recent legislation and added a general license that authorizes the provision of agricultural commodities, medicine and medical devices, and related components and software updates for individuals designated pursuant to the BSR.

OFAC also updated the term “the Office of Foreign Assets Control” or the “the Director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control” with the acronym “OFAC” in three sections of the Sudan Stabilization Sanctions Regulations.  In addition, OFAC updated the authorities section of the Ukraine-/Russia-Related Sanctions Regulations to add a reference two Executive Orders issued pursuant to the national emergency declared in EO 13600 and corrected an erroneous cross-reference in § 589.520 of the regulation.

The final rule is effective on August 21, 2024, upon publication in the Federal Register.
