The Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation of HM Treasury has extended the duration of General License INT/2023/2711256 for six months. The license was granted under regulation 61 of The Syria (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019, and is intended to enable activities necessary to facilitate humanitarian assistance in relation to earthquake relief efforts in Syria and Turkey. GL INT/2023/2711256 is now set to expire on August 14, 2024.
OFSI has also amended General License INT/2022/2009156, which allows certain payments to UK insurance companies. OFSI has clarified that the permitted payments may be made only for UK properties and UK vehicles, but the definition of return payments was expanded to include additional types of refunds that can be made to a designated person’s frozen bank account. Under GL INT/2022/2009156, reporting and record-keeping obligations also apply to insurance brokers, and must be fulfilled within ten working days.
