The UK Serious Fraud Office recently announced bribery charges against two former executives of London Mining Plc, a mine operator and developer. The two former executives, Chief Executive Officer Graeme Hossi and Chief Financial Officer Rachel Rhodes, were charged on June 16, 2023 alongside Ariel Armon, an international business consultant, for conspiring to make multiple corrupt payments in order to obtain preferential treatment in Sierra Leone. London Mining was formerly headquartered in London, and had operations in Brazil, China, Colombia, Greenland, Saudi Arabia and Sierra Leone; the company went into administration in 2014. In 2016, the SFO launched an investigation into the collapsed business, and has made multiple arrests in the case. The defendants are currently scheduled to appear before Southwark Crown Court on July 14, 2023 in connection with these charges.
