On March 17, 2020 the Department of State announced that it will designate Amir Muhammad Sa’id Abdal-Rahman al-Mawla, the new leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) pursuant to Executive Order 13224, as amended by Executive Order 13886. This action is taking place as part of a comprehensive effort to curtail the advancement of ISIS in coordination with the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS. As a result of this designation, all US persons are prohibited from doing business with al-Mawla, and all of his interest in US property is blocked. In addition, any person who willfully attempts to provide material support to this individual risks criminal charges.
