On March 17, 2025, the Council of the European Union adopted Council Decision (CFSP) 2025/514 in order to add the Al Azaim Media Foundation to its autonomous list of sanctions against those associated with ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaeda. According the Council, Al Azaim Media Foundation was designated for being the media branch of the Islamic State’s Khorasan Province. Entities listed under the ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaeda sanctions regime are subject to asset freezes, and EU persons and operators are prohibited from making funds or economic resources available to them. The Council reported that the new listing also serves to reconfirm the EU’s commitment to counter the continuing terrorist threat posed by Al-Qaeda, ISIL/Da’esh and their regional affiliates.
