UK online gambling operators resolve allegations of money laundering and social responsibility violations

Online gambling operators Platinum Gaming Limited and Gamesys (Gibraltar) Limited have resolved allegations of money laundering and social responsibility code violations.

Investigations by the UK Gambling Commission led to findings of failures by both companies to comply with the Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017 and the Social Responsibility Code (a condition of operating licenses).

Platinum’s settlement includes disgorgement of £629,420, to be returned to the victim whose stolen money was used to gamble, a payment of £990,200 directed to the National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Harms, and payment of £9,800 of investigative costs.

Gamesys will pay £690,000 to the National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Harms, £460,472 toward reimbursement of identified victims of crime, and payments towards investigative costs.
