On July 24, 2019, the UK National Crime Agency obtained an Unexplained Wealth Order, which was revealed on July 31 after the order was served. The subject of the UWO is a Northern Irish person residing in London, whom the NCA believes to have ties to paramilitary activity and cigarette smuggling. Interim Freezing Orders have been issued with respect to four properties owned by the subject of the UWO, blocking the sale, transfer or dissipation of the properties while the investigation is ongoing.
This is the fourth instance that the NCA has exercised its power to issue UWOs.
