Sparked by the revelations in court documents related to the Airbus SE global bribery settlement, governments in several countries have opened investigations into the involvement of local officials in the alleged bribery schemes. In Ghana, which was named in the Airbus settlement documents in the UK, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called for an investigation and asked the Ghanaian Office of Special Prosecutor to collaborate with its UK counterparts to determine whether any Ghanaian government officials were involved in wrongdoing.
In Malaysia, another country named in the settlement documents, the Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission confirmed on February 1, 2020, that the MACC had contacted UK authorities regarding the matter and had begun its own internal investigation.
The Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission, the KPK, has also stated it is investigating possible corruption by PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk, an Indonesian airline, in connection with purchases from Airbus.
