The Serious Fraud Office has confirmed that it is investigating Bombardier Inc., a corporate and commercial jet manufacturer headquartered in Montreal, Canada. Since the investigation is ongoing, the SFO limited its comments to the subject of the investigation: suspected bribery and corruption in connection with aircraft orders by the Indonesian flag carrier, Garuda Indonesia Airlines. Bombardier acknowledged the investigation, and said that it has met with the SFO to report on the status of an internal investigation undertaken by the company following the conviction and sentencing of the former CEO of Garuda, Emirsyah Satar, in May 2020, on corruption and money laundering charges. As noted by Bombardier, Satar’s conviction, the company’s internal investigation, and the SFO investigation, center on procurement processes involving several manufacturers, including Bombardier.
