On January 31, 2023, the UK Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation announced the addition of a new group – The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant in South-East Asia (ISIL-SEA, ISIL South East Asia) – to the UK Sanctions List. The group was added pursuant to The ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida (United Nations Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 (SI 2019/466) and is now subject to an asset freeze in the UK. The sanction was imposed just days after the UN Security Council added the group to its ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions List on January 27, 2023, which subjects the group to the asset freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 2610 (2021).
